I second that. This is the reason print.jal was created in the first
place. The reason this is suggested means there is something wrong
with format.jal ;)
I am not happy with the fixed-point function in print.jal either.
Don't know who added it, but it not belong there IMO (and I even think
it does not work properly in all cases). And if we add such
functionality, the fixed point shoud be user-placable, not fixed. And
there should be functions for all variable types that are supported by
the other functions too.

And for the original question: I don't object to adding, but urge you
to add the functions for other variable sizes too.
