The warnings are caused by a compiler issue, according to Kyle:
Looks like you found a bug here -- this warning definitely shouldn't be
occurring. I'll take a look & see what I find.
Nevertheless these warnings are now suppressed by type casting per revision
2963.
There appeared to be some other (minor) issues with the handling of
different names of EEPROM related registers.
I've also improved the embedded comments.
Issue closed.
