We have previously discussed moving samples into folders by sample
name or device type. There was no decision made.
Our standard has always been to try to make any library work on any
device, and so I feel they should be moved into folders by sample
type. Device type should not matter for most of our libraries and samples.
I will be moving samples into folders at GitHub and in the Jallib
package. Are the other active contributors ok with this? There are 173
different sample types.
Some thoughts...
I think 173 subdirectories is somewhat too many and separating on
library might not be the ideal method. When looking for a sample you
don't always know which library you need!
But if it will be separating on library some aspects should be considered:
There are a couple of large sample groups (like blink, serial, lcd, i2c)
for which a separate directory seems justifiable. But many libraries
have only one or a few samples, and creating an individual subdirectory
for these seems overkill to me. Putting these in groups of more or less
similar applications (like controlling leds, sensors, timers, etc) would
give a "good enough" overview I think.
Also many samples use more than one library. Would you want a copy of
such a sample in several subdirectories? That may rise to maintenance
issues!
A (multi-level) indexing system could be useful, or a searching
mechanism....
Regards, Rob.
