Hi Even,

I normally do not use the debugger of the Pickit3 using ASM. I had done it once
but that was with an older version of MPLABX and for a PIC that was already on
the market for some time.

Not sure why it would not work anymore but I do know that Microchip does not
support certain newer chips anymore with the Pickit3 so you need the SNAP
programmer or the Pickit4 for newer chips.

Kind regards,

Rob

What is the best debugger to use to walk the ASM?

I believe MPLAB-5.30 does not work correctly.
I believe MPLAB-5.30 may work correctly. Hence, my ask.
I believe MPLAB-5.40 does not support ASM.

Cheers
