Hi, I have used such a module, but only one. Here, you have 4 modules that are daisy-chained: The DOUT of one is linked to DIN of the next.
As mentioned by Rob, they are based on the MAX7219, and the library works very well for me. However, I didn't try the MAX7219_n library, but I am confident there should be no (bad) surprises.
