Hi Adeba,

I'm not aware of anything from the Jalview side that would cause 'save project'
to fail.

If you can find anything that does so reproducibly I would be very interested!

My best suggestion if you want to be sure, is to do this every time:

  *   ?save the project
  * close all windows in Jalview
  * reload the project you just saved to check it is ok

After that it is just a matter of keeping the files safe!

Best regards,

Mungo

Hello Mungo,

Thank you for pointing this out. I do notice they are 63 byte on my end as
well. I did these projects at the same time I did other projects and the others
are okay. Unfortunately these are the only copies I have. Is there something I
could do to prevent this from happening again. I may inadvertently be doing
something to the file while saving it. This is not the first time it has
happened to me but generally I have backup files and it is okay. This time I
didn't double save these projects.

Best,

Hello Adeba,

Thanks for passing me the Jalview project (.jvp) files you are having trouble
with.

These do not appear to be valid project files - they are too small, and not in
zip file format.

Inspecting the binary content (with Unix command "xxd -b <file>") and comparing
with a valid project file suggests that they have been truncated.

Have they perhaps been incompletely transferred from (or to?) some backup
location?

Are you able to recopy these files, or do you have any other copies of them?

Thanks and regards,

Mungo

Subject: [Jalview-discuss] Error loading file message

Dear Jalview administrator,

I have two files that I was able to open three months ago but can not longer
open. I am using the same jalview version as I did when I created the
documents. When I try to open them, I get the message "error loading file" and
cannot open it. Is there a way to open these files?

Thanks!
