Hi, I tried to made that change once, just to see how easy to do this. And it all went very fast and easy before I came across with James server classes which extends org.apache.avalon.cornerstone.services.connection.AbstractService; Latter uses ComponentManager but not ServiceManager. It is possible to not to use AbstractService at all but this way changes are not so minimal in this part of James as it can look in the beginning. Andrei
