I don't believe that there has been much work on it. And more importantly,
we're going to really need to revisit the entire user data model for v3, so
please join us.
Personally, I think that a JNDI(-lite) interface may be the way to go,
especially since it already supports the notion of multiple service
providers to separate the abstract model from the storage mechanism, and
already has LDAP support. But that matter needs discussion, and your input
will be valued.
IMO, JNDI is an ideal interface for user repository data, considering its
lineage back to X.500.
There is going to be a lot to talk about regarding v3. It is going to be
interesting, and require organization because there are so many design areas
to visit over time. And we are just a small group.
As Peter said, if you need something NOW, look at the current UserRepository
interface.
