There may be some other issues. I am going to rollback the change locally
and re-test. What I am seeing so far is that the CPU looping problem
reported by Randy last week is reproducible, and I'm also seeing a 25%
reduction in performance over what I'd expect.
Will report results later today.

Duh, thanks for catching this. Something to commit to both branches
then (and by moving the mark alleviates my concern that we were making
