Noel, ok new testing with different server and I do indeed get the 550 - looks like I'll have to take you up on the thinly veiled hint to rewrite RemoteDelivery! :-)
what behaviour should we go for? i had in mind moving the last successful mail server to the top of the list (to avoid wasteful tries of failing servers) and retrying all 4XX and 5XX (up to the configured maximum number of attempts).
