I used to get POP3 hanging pretty frequently.
After updating to the latest(actually ~ 20th May) James Code and Avalon
framework, the problem reduced. I suspected the problem was due to potential
Thread problems in Avalon and connection manager interaction with it. There
were some fixes made in that area.
Not sure if you are using an older version. If you upgrade the problem could
significantly reduce.
