It uses the SMTP protocol, lookup the RFC using Google and It has the protocol.
Try HELO ( you should see a hello from ... ) QUIT (gets you out) I forget the other commands, but they are like SUBJ xxx FROM xxx TO xxx MSG xxxxxxxxx until ^D?
