Danny,

I'd like to raise a question about this claim.  IF we are using James with a
database server, don't we need to make sure that James shuts down before the
database server, or we could find ourselves in a (short duration) state
where we can't save the e-mail received, or remove mail sent?

None AFAIK,
Using the remote manager simply allows james to be stopped (when run as a
daemon) without knowing the PID or having to hunt down detached processes.
