Michael, You'll need to put the startup bundle for James into /Library/StartupItems. Here're a couple of document describing the process <http://developer.apple.com/techpubs/macosx/Essentials/SystemOverview/BootingLogin/Customization_Techniques.html> & <http://www.darwinfo.org/howto/SystemStarter_HOWTO.shtml> (you can also look in /System/Library/StartupItems for examples).
