Review the SMTP RFC. Attachments are a fiction permitted by MIME handling.
James does support a storage notion called dbfile, which stores the headers
in the database and the body in the file system.

Subject: RE: JDBC and Attachments
Is there any way to separate attachments from the message body?
Specifically, have the message body in a JDBC store and the attachments in a
file directory? Wouldn't that be ideal? Why would you want file
attachments in your database?
Thanks in advance :-)
