Wouldn't it be better to just have the rollover frequency and filename be configurable, so that we don't have to have this big conversation?

I haven't had time to read the entire thread, so pardon me if this has already been covered.

I prefer 'yyyy-MM-dd-hh-mm' over 'yyyy-MM-dd'.

If one extends logging to rollover more than once a day, the former would hold better. It is also good to know the time rollover occurred.
