If the alias existed at the time of delivery, then the mail should get delivered to the jerome inbox so when you connect as jerome, you'll see it. However, if you create the alias after the mail is delivered, you will not see it when you log in as jerome.
The aliases only control direction of delivery to a box. POP doesn't use them at all.
