adding user using JSP/Servlet

I am implementing a membership website using JSP and servlet. Whenever a new user 
signs up,  a signupServlet will telnet to James and create a new pop/smtp account. I 
don't know if this approach is what James developers had in mind for automatical 
account creation. Any comments/suggestions are appreciated.
