Plain simple:

1) use mail servlet as the name
2) use the APIs as defined by Pier and I as a starting point,
incorporating the filtering ideas from you and Federico.
3) -1 on forking the mail (also for internet worm problems!)

Hope this was rough, quick and dirty enough :)
