The problem with anime is that the character pool is usually small.
The character doing the talking is usually speaking to a peer of the
same age group and occupation. You don't get to see a lot of the
dynamics of the language this way. Besides this, I have no way of
knowing whether the character is talking in a normal japanese way, or
in some weird comic lingo.
