It does, but you can't use your @yahoo.com email, because it will use the default latin character set. Yahoo has a japanese portal, but it seems the user accounts are separate. You need to create a new email account there:
http://mail.yahoo.co.jp You should be able to post kanji from yahoo's japanese email portal without problems. Or if you have a gmail account, use that. gmail always uses unicode and yahoo groups have no problems with it.
