This can only occur when the configure script is generated using one
(installed) version of libtool.m4 that's incompatible with
ltconfig/ltmain.sh distributed with the package. I've been
recommending packages that adopt libtool to ship libtool.m4 with their
packages, either inlined in acinclude.m4 or with a hack that generates
acinclude.m4 from some other file, say, acinclude.m4i, and libtool.m4,
preferrably renamed to libtool.m4i to avoid problems of duplicate
macro definitions. I've taken this second approach, for example, in
recent snapshots of Amanda <URL:http://www.amanda.org/> (the snapshots
are available from my home page).
