I'm completly new to JasperReports (& iReport) as well as to Java ... Now, I need to convert a field value from a number to a (understandable) text. Example: "0" should be printed as 'none' and "25" as 'low' ... As far as I have seen, there are 2 possibilities to get this matching done - either by using the expression from e.g. a variable or by using a scriptlet. But - the scriptlet has different "scopes" (at least in the embedded scriptlet editor from iReport), and the expression syntax examples which I found in any forum are cryptic to me.
Now, I need to create a set of reports and don't want to need to ask someone any time - so my question would be more for a good reference to the usage of the scriptlets, the scriptlet editor and to the syntax of the expressions, as to ask for specific help. I would like to avoid to buy these eBooks for JasperReports & iReport, as the internal processes to buy them would last too long. Has anyone ideas where to get an introduction in the syntax of expressions - and maybe also for the scriptlets? Thanks for your help!
