duane, no apologies needed. I'm really not sure what is wrong with your
configuration. I'm running a similar setup (although no DSO and 1.3.4) and
it is working just fine for me:

One thing that I have done is placed my conf files into a location where you
call can look at them. I don't know how long I will keep it this way, but
feel free to look for now.
