You need automake version 1.3b (exactly that version -- no other one will
work), libtool version 1.2 (a version at least that high), and autoconf
2.12 (that version works, others may as well).

I believe (but would like someone to verify this) that the next steps to
be taken are: 

aclocal
automake
autoconf
./configure {options}

then you'd do 'make dist' to make a distribution ... or you can use the
source directory w/o making a distribution, for testing & development.
