Hi Gregory,

you might try to check something not documented in the FAQ, that seemed
to help me...

- check that you have only one log=true/false entry. As I had
 copied the example-configuration, I ended up with two entries
- check that the directories have the same owner- and group-
 settings. Even though my setup was done under root and apache
 is running under root and all files/directories belonged to
 root JServ only started to work when I changed some group-
 settings from xxx (don't remember) to root.

The processing as root is surely not optimal, but... Just check
those ownerships...
