Look in your Apache error log. Chances are you'll find a bit more
explanation there. I have a patch to redirect errors to the JServ error
log instead -- but I'm seeing some strange problems on Solaris (not on
linux, though) which I want to debug before I commit it.
I had thought that STDERR wasn't being redirected, but when I tested it
Linux and Solaris, messages to STDERR were indeed ending up in the Apach
error log.
If other things fail, try starting it by hand, after setting the listed
environmental variables, and running the program exactly as is shown in
the error log (after all these messages).
Also, 1.0b4 is now out, and it does fix some bugs; you may want to switch
to it.
