I'm using Blackdown JDK 1.2pre-v1 with JRE 1.2pre-v2 with JServ, because I still have
some apps that
won't work with glibc 2.1 (There is pre-v2 JDK for glibc 2.1). Works fine, but if you
want to try it,
be sure to read the "Known bugs" -page.
JRE pre-v1 occasionally segfaults with JServ and hogs at least 64M of memory per
Apache process, but
JRE pre-v2 seems more stable and far less (1/10) memory hungry.
Blackdown is notoriously slow though, so you might want to look at IBM's 1.17
implementation.
All in all I'm pretty happy with Blackdown and have applied it to production server
without problems.
I wouldn't try GUI-app development with it though. ;-)
