i know that the jpeg standard lets u control the quality and yes jpegs are
good for photographs. i do not know whether the jpeg classes in the sun
packages let you specify the compression level. if they do, then 100% should
give you the same picture without any degradation. i do not know offhand
whether that package has that functionality.
try one of the png implementations .. perhaps u could post ur findings =)
