For a high-load production server I'd recommend still Solaris, instead
of Linux. Regardeless to the different VMs, the thread model under
Linus' operating system is still (IMVHO) inefficent, while it's
definitely better under Solaris.

I used Solaris for a long time under and Pentium II/400 (NetFinity 3000)
and never had a problem (right now it runs Linux and goes like a
charm!). I never had any experience with SPARC machines (maybe when Jon
gets back on monday, he will be able to give you a hint, he uses Solaris
on SPARC since years). Also consider that there are SPARC clones not
manufactured by Sun that cost less and I was told run smoothly.

JServ is a nice choiche if you don't want to use JSP/1.0 (requiring
Servlets 2.1), but with the beginning of Jakarta, this will be soon
solved. Of course WebLogic offers warranties that we can not offer, it
depends on your needs/knowledge.
