BEFORE YOU POST, search the faq at <http://java.apache.org/faq/>
WHEN YOU POST, include all relevant version numbers, log files,
and configuration files. Don't make us guess your problem!!!

I, like most reasonable people, really would like to read a FAQ before posting to a
mailing list.

Even on the java.apache.org mailing list page, it urges you to read the FAQ before
posting.

The welcome message to this list urges you to read the FAQ.

Yet there is NO FAQ.

I have communicated about this several times with the FAQ administrator, who by now
probably hates my guts.

On the FAQ (http://java.apache.org/faq/) page it says:

"
Sorry, the FAQ is now unavailable until we come up with a replacement. This is due to
the excessive load that the resource intensive Perl CGI based FAQ-O-Matic caused on
the system.

We are not withholding it to inconvience you or deny you documentation in order to get
someone to come up with an implementation. We are simply making it unavailable for the
reasons explained above (it is overly resource intensive). We would love to be able to
provide this resource to you since, in reality, it makes our job of helping you
easier.

Sorry, we cannot provide an estimate on when it will be back.

We are looking for new alternatives and would appreciate an Open Source (Apache/BSD
Style License) Java Servlet based solution that stores its data in a MySQL database.
If you have a good replacement or are interested in creating a replacement, please
contact [EMAIL PROTECTED] Please do not email me asking your FAQ questions or for a tar
ball of the previous FAQ. That is rude. I'm not your tech support slave.
"

Now, I'm not unreasonable. All I would expect is a tar ball of the original FAQ's
contents, in HTML with a link from this page...Instead of saying "it's gone, and you
cant have it", shouldn't the page say "the perl script is gone, but here's a tar file
of the old FAQ"

So I'll post my F.A.Q.

Is there a mirror for the Apache Jserv FAQ?

I guess my frustration stems from all these links that tell me to read the faq before
asking any questions, and when i actually try to, it's gone. So I hope the list
participants here are tolerant of Frequently Asked Questions

Thank you,
Mark Williamson
