This is just a "me too" I'm afraid.
I'm using pretty much the same system config as you (Linux 2.2.12,
Apache 1.3.9, no mod_ssl or mod_perl, same Blackdown JDK, no JIT) and
I'm seeing precisely the same effect.
My suspicion is that this is down to the Blackdown JDK. Have you tried
this with the IBM JDK? I haven't yet, but might do so as I have it
available to swap in, just to see if I get the same effect.
