There is a problem but I don't think it is what you think it is. I
inadvertantly took the output from an attempt to run ./configure with the
--with-JSDK=/usr/local/JSDK2.0/lib/jsdk.jar option set. I have a symlink
/usr/local/jsdk pointing to /usr/local/JSDK2.0

My message should have said... 
I am running configure like this:
cd ../ApacheJServ-1.1.2
./configure \
--with-apache-src=../apache_1.3.12 \
--prefix=/usr/local/jserv \
--with-jdk-home=/usr/local/jdk \
--with-JSDK=/usr/local/jsdk/lib/jsdk.jar
