Apache JServ v1.1.1
Announcement #1
This email is to announce the release of Apache JServ 1.1.1. This is our
most stable and reliable release yet. Many bugs have been fixed since the
1.1 release and a few new features have been added. Please see the ChangeLog
for more details.
<http://java.apache.org/jserv/>
Currently, there is only a .tar.gz. RPM's and a Win32 version (volunteers
needed for the Win32 version) will be available shortly.
Announcement #2
I am also announcing that at this point, Apache JServ is officially in
retirement. No new features will be added unless absolutely necessary. Only
bug fixes from this point on and they must be well tested prior to
submission. All future development should be concentrated on the
Tomcat/Catalina Servlet Engine which is the next generation Servlet Engine
that supports the latest Servlet API and JSP specifications. It is nearing a
3.2 release which should provide excellent stability and 2-3x speed
increases.
<http://jakarta.apache.org/>
You can still continue to use Apache JServ without worry though. It will
still continue to be supported until Tomcat is well tested like Apache JServ
is. In other words, we are not going away or abandoning you any time soon.
:-) We are instead attempting to focus our limited development resources on
the future rather than the past.
Announcement #3
The Java Apache Project and the Jakarta Apache Project will eventually merge
together. All of the active projects under the Java Apache Project will be
migrated over to the Jakarta Apache Project. This has been the "behind the
scenes" plan for quite some time now, but due to various reasons, this
migration has not happened. It will now happen within the next month or two.
The goal is to provide a unified Java resource for all of the Java Apache
related projects.
thanks,
-jon stevens
