As User Interface Designer, you will research and identify opportunities for improvement, take control of initiatives, anticipate & solve issues for stakeholders, communicate & sell ideas that will meet business requirements and improve end-user productivity. This is a non-technical position responsible for design, functionality, documentation and implementation of features and functionality. We are looking for a business savvy candidate who has a strong grasp of UI/UX principles and best practices, and promoting products and services online with a customer-centric focus. You must be able to work well in multi-disciplinary groups including technical, business, marketing and customer experience. RESPONSIBILITIES You will create UI design proposals/wireframes, gather usability input, create mock-ups, produce detailed feature specifications, and work closely with software developers and stakeholders to manage the implementation of these features. §Gathering and analyzing customer data and user requirements, understanding and interpreting user needs and goals into design solutions (e.g., requirements gathering, interactive design, prototyping, cognitive walk-through, usability evaluation, and customer experience feedback) §Designing, prototyping, and usability testing Web user interface applications across multiple platforms §Collaborating with project teams throughout the product development process, implementing and integrating user centered design methodology §Communicating and selling human factors and user interface design principles, and ideas/design solutions to business partners and project teams §Work with all departments to ensure UI proposals satisfy business, rating, compliance, legal, performance, technical and other needs Designing and developing usability test plans, conducting usability tests, and providing recommendations based on test results. Subject matter expert in current Web trends, browsers, and Web usability best practices EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE §BA/BS degree required (specialization in computer software user interface design preferred) §3-5 years website UI design experience, preferably in consumer services REQUIRED SKILLS §Highly organized and detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task and manage multiple priorities and see projects to completion. §Ability to multitask in a busy and changing work environment, and adjust to changing work priorities §Strong oral and written communication skills §Effectively communicate with both technical and non-technical users at all levels of an organization §Self-motivated and able to work without close supervision §Proven performance in a team environment PLUS: Knowledge of HTML, Photoshop, and/or Dreamweaver (or equivalents) MUST have extensive experience with MS Office Suite, strong emphasis on MS Visio (wireframes and workflows), and ability to self-learn new applications and tools – BA’s are writing the requirements in Visio Candidates should NOT be heavy coders. They should not be that technical as the position does not include coding of the design. The position only entails data visualization – candidate should be able to look at table format and visualiza how to turn it into design (turning numbers into pictures). Candidates must therefore be very visually inclined. Candidate should be familiar with market data (i.e. perhaps have own fidelity.com site) but financial services experience doesn’t matter Should be independent worker. There is a lot of virtual work. 75% of team in located in NYC. Candidates MUST show proven track record in resume of long term assignments. They should have experience seeing what the end product resulted in. This is a long-term assignment and may go perm eventually. MUST include a sample of candidate’s work along with the resume. The sample will be viewed by the look and feel – stylized websites as opposed to information architecture.
