Job title: Data Modeler Location: Detroit, MI Duration: Till 2015 (very long term) 1. Summary Role Description Accountable for defining, developing, maintaining, and communicating and measuring compliance to all Domain Data Areas Logical Data Models. Responsible for all Domain level use of Enterprise Data Dictionary tool, processes and content in collaboration with Enterprise Data Modeler. Supports Enterprise and Domain Information Architecture Components including Master Data, Meta Data, Data Management Repositories, Data Standards, Tool Standards, etc., and supports development of policies and procedures for managing consumption and compliance to GM Data Standards. Works closely with Domain Information Architect, Enterprise Data Modeler, Systems Engineering Architects and Planners to ensure alignment with target (future-state) Business and Data Architecture goals of the enterprise. 2. Education Bachelor’s Degree required. 3. Major Duties and Responsibilities a. Accountable for defining requirements, developing, maintaining, and communicating of Logical Data Models for Domain Data Areas as part of Common Data Architecture (CDA) Initiatives. b. Accountable for creation of Physical Data Models for Domain Master Data in collaboration with Domain Information Architect based on Cross-project business requirements. c. Responsible for Collaborating with Enterprise Data Modeler to drive use of Enterprise Master Data Models within Domains. d. Accountable for Creating, maintaining, and communicating the domain data content in the Enterprise Data Dictionary to manage standardized Meta-data for each Domain Data Element (i.e., Definition, Type, Format, GOLD SOURCE, and content). e. Accountable for defining and managing Domain Data Life Cycle. f. Accountable for integration of project data models into domain data architecture. Further integration with Enterprise Data Models. g. Participates, as required, in Enterprise Data Stewardship Working Group. h. Accountable for Common Data Architecture Compliance Audits - measuring Compliance to Domain Master Data Models within projects. i. Responsible for data quality and integration of all data architecture components at domain level. j. Provides support for identifying, selecting, and approving enterprise-wide data model standards. 4. Qualifications a. General Skills: (i) Excellent verbal communication skills, including active listening skills, ability to illustrate abstract models using concrete examples, ability to facilitate discussion of diverse points of view while maintaining group focus on the subject at hand. (ii) Excellent written communication skills, including application of standard English usage and grammar, ability to illustrate complex or abstract subjects using simple diagrams, ability to align content to the perspective of the intended audience. Well versed with MS-Office toolset (Visio, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) as required for documenting and communicating data model requirements/deliverables. (iii) Good leadership skills, including the ability to clearly articulate objectives and way forward, ability to lead through influence rather than control, ability to build consensus and solve problems. (iv) Superior relationship skills, including ability to mediate opposing viewpoints and negotiate equitable outcomes that ensure stable solutions. b. Technical Skills: (i) Practical experience with Data Architecture, including the distinction between contextual, conceptual, logical, and physical layers and the distinction and dependencies between business, information, systems, and technology. (ii) Expert in designing, benchmarking, engineering, testing and implementation of Data Capabilities (e.g., Master Data, Gold Sourcing, Data Integration, Data Processes, Data Tool Application, etc.). (iii) Significant Experience in defining requirements, developing, maintaining, and communicating Logical Data Models and Physical Data Models for Master Data Areas using data modeling and data dictionary tools (e.g., ErWin, Data Dictionary Tools - IBM InfoSphere, etc). (iv) Practical Experience in Modeling Data for a Variety of Business Problems. (v) Expert in conducting Data Model assessment; Requirements definition/mapping/gap analysis. (vi) Demonstrated Leadership skills in leading Master Data Compliance Audits, reporting, and leveraging lessons learned to drive appropriate changes, training, etc. (vii) Significant Experience in identifying, selecting, and approving enterprise-wide data modeling standards. (viii) Practical Experience in data quality and data integration functions for all data architecture components. (ix) Practical Experience with Data Stewardship. 5. Experience a. Minimum 5 to 7 years experience in Data and Data Modeling. b. Significant experience in data architecture design and data modeling and development and maintenance of large scale data architectures. c. Significant development experience in implementation of Data Architectures involving both COTS and Custom application, technologies. d. Significant hands-on Data Integration (i.e., Middleware) experience using industry standard tools, technologies. e. Expert level Data Tool skills, using Data Modeling and Data Dictionary tools (e.g., ErWin, IBM InfoSphere, etc.). f. Experience with ERP systems desirable, especially SAP. g. Understanding of multiple RDBMS technologies. h. Experience with J2EE, SOA desirable. i. Experience with establishing Data Modeling and Data Dictionary processes and standards. j. Experience with Data Stewardship programs. k. Capability to Run Data Quality and Data Standards Compliance Audits. l.
