: Perhaps something like @since <version here> is what we should be using : on that file formats page.
It's a little late now for older versions, but it might make sense to move that documentation directly into the code base, where it can be locally linked to from the javadocs, and included directly into jars (both source, and binary). Then people won't have to worry about wether they are looking at the right do version for their code version -- it will come with the code.
