You get no answers, so I wrote this. It is a general reflection on open source projects and the participating parties. Not really about you and your project. I hope it can give you an idea on how to promote it. This is a great place to post things that gets ignored. Everybody is knee deep in their own projects and does not wake up and look in to new things until there is a discussion immediately cross referenced with their own work or interest. With some luck, established future needs also triggers people. The only time I ever got people here to react for real, is when I asked if 1.5-code would be committed. Generally engineers have pretty bad marketing skills. We love to write long and detailed about our projects, text nobody reads. And as we get no response we write even more. Finally anything we write gets ignored. Explain in no more than a couple of sentences why GData is so great and put it on the Wiki. Nag us with these words in your signature. Host a demo application that will blow our minds! Do something. People will not download and run the application just because it exists. They need to be interested or need it first. And to have an interest or feel the need one have to understand what it is. It is easy to end up in a catch 22. I have no marketing skills. I am a code monkey. I keep posting stuff until I get ignored. I have to kidnap my mentors. I have to fool people in to using my code so I get it tested and approved. I have to call my mother and tell her what great stuff I made to get acknowledgment. I worry about my code getting to no use if I would die tomorrow. But don't despair. And don't be offended. It's not you, it's me and the other people with an agenda and ideas of their own. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
