I tested just the IndexWriter from this code base, it does not seem to work. NewIndexModifier does work. I simply used IndexWriter to create several documents and then search for them. Nothing came back even though it seems something was written to disk.
The patch worked until several days ago, when a change was committed to IndexWriter which probably broke the patch. I didn't submit another patch to avoid flooding this issue with too many patches. But if you or anyone else are interested in using/reviewing/committing this patch, I will submit one that works with the latest version.
