To the right of and aligned with the top of the "Comment:" text area that's part of the "Add Comment" section in a JIRA issue, there are two icons: "preview" and "wiki markup help" -- if you click on the "wiki markup help" icon (which looks like a speech balloon with a question mark in it), a window with lots of helpful help pops up.
