Mike,

Thanks for committing. I have a slightly more tested version which uncovered a 
couple of bugs:

- using null for the upper limit didn't work
- bad combinations of ranges weren't rejected with IllegalArgumentException

This also includes the correct version of the test suite (I accidentally 
included the pre edit version before)
