I'm afraid my friend that this is the stage one may refer to as denial. Yes it is true, Oracle has purchased Sun. Simply do a google for it and you will see (hey, if it's on the Net it has to be true). My take on this is that what happens to the IDEs isn't of high concern to Oracle. There are other assets that Sun has in its' portfolio that Oracle is obtaining through this acquisition that if of higher priority. There just isn't enough revenue in selling development tools for it to be of immediate importance. NetBeans is open source, so much of the actual "ownership" is with those in the OS community that do that actual work. This doesn't mean that Oracle may not pull it from the OS domain, but it's highly unlikely. What they may do is what IBM has done with Eclipse and create their own version with extensions to support specific areas of their product lines... but who knows? If you want to see this product continue, I encourage you to get involved with the NetBeans community (http://www.netbeans.org/community/index.html) at the very least to keep an ear into where the product is headed.
