Hi,
 
If you are new in Java I think that in order to obtain strong basics you should start with Java course http://www.javapassion.com/javaintro/
After this course you can continue on J2EE course.
During both courses you can use both Eclipse and NetBeans. However all exercise are presented in NB and I strongly recommend you this tool.
