Java : From Novice to Professional from Wrox should be a good start.. I would suggest that you practise a specific area in Java. It is an ocean so being specific would help..These days, there is a lot of work on Web Based and Distributed MVC architecture.. So try out whatever is latest for now (ofcourse after being clear of the concepts..)
