Since you want to put you char values to String Arraylist ... I guess you
need to convert your char values to string before adding into the
arraylist.. something like this..


  ArrayList<String> selectedActualUserRolesList = new ArrayList<String>();

   for(int index=0; index < roles.length; index++)
          selectedActualUserRolesList
.add(Character.toString(roles[index]));

Else, you can always have  an ArrayList of Character..
