*Senior Sybase/SQL Server Database Administrator*

Perform Sybase and SQL Server Systems Database Administration across
multiple  database environments and ensure continuous 24x7 operation and
availability in support of mission critical production applications.   This
position is primarily responsible for Sybase database administration with
approximately 25% of the time supporting SQL Server.

   - Ensure high availability, reliability and optimal performance of
   production Sybase and SQL Server instances
   - Installation, configuration and upgrading / patching of  Sybase and SQL
   Server software
   - Perform regular database instance-level as well as application-level
   tuning
   - Monitoring and controlling disk space usage, object creation, data
   security &  hardware usage
   - Ensure contingency plans for each database system (backup, recovery,
   failover) are documented and tested
   - Design, document and enforce data security and disaster recovery plan
   with consideration for key dependencies
   - Propose and develop strategic database improvements in technical areas
   of database implementation, support and enhancement
   - Work with development team to coordinate and promote new versions of
   Sybase and SQL Server DBMS, new installations, upgrades and patches
   - Act in a consulting capacity supporting development teams during
   application design and implementation phases
   - Troubleshoot user database issues.  This includes working with the
   individual end-user groups, Engineering, external clients as well as the
   Technical Support organizations of our 3rd party vendors
   - Develop, document and enforce application database standards and
   procedures
   - Ensuring the quality and consistency of data and database systems by
   following a defined set of procedures (change control, security procedures,
   user passwords, backups, etc)
   - Generate and interpret data to identify and correct database
   performance issues
   - Coordinate database cloning (including restores), schema, and table
   level data refreshes with development team and support staff
   - Write/maintain OS level scripts (i.e., UNIX shell) for system DB
   maintenance
   - Proven aptitude towards automating, process improvements, and
   innovative thinking
   - Work with multiple support and development teams to resolve technical
   performance issues/bottlenecks (e.g., network, storage, application)
   - Provide 24x7 on-call support in an on-call rotation

*Qualifications*

*MUST HAVE:*

   - Expert in Sybase ASE 12.5/15 RDBMS; experience in a 24x7 high
   availability environment is a must
   - Proficient supporting SQL Server 2000/2005 on Windows 2000/2003
   Operating System including clustered SQL Servers, replication, log shipping
   and database mirroring
   - Extensive application performance tuning experience
   - Experience with Sybase replication in both  homogeneous and
   heterogeneous implementations
   - Experience with Disaster Recovery design, implementation and testing
   using DR replication tools
   - Strong Transact SQL skills supporting complex stored procedures
   - Strong database performance tuning and trouble shooting skills
   - Experience with UNIX(Solaris 10 /AIX) trouble shooting and security
   - Strong UNIX/AIX scripting skills
   - Team player who has a customer focus and excels at bringing their
   professionalism and expertise to the team
   - Ability to initiate a project and follow it through to conclusion
   - Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
   - Ability to work effectively and at times independently, in a fast paced
   implementation environment
   - Strong written & oral communication skills
   - Ability to work effectively with peers and customers in remote
   locations

*Desirable:*

·          Experience with LDAP login authentication

·          Familiarity with DBArtisan

·          Familiarity with Peregrine System's Service Center tool for
change control and problem resolution

*Education / Special Training: *

   - BS Computer Science or equivalent; 10 years systems database
   administration experience across both Sybase and SQL Server environments
   - Sybase / SQL Server DBA Certification a plus
