The main things I notice off the bat are problems with fonts. The
font used by default on Linux is in italics which makes things look a
little ugly. There also seems to be other font problems.
Brad,
It does sound like you have a problem with your X11 configuration.
You could send me the output of the following commands, and then
I might be able to help you diagnose this a little better:
xrdb -q
xset q
xdpyinfo
rpm -q -a | grep XFree86
The latest program I was trying to work with is a report generator
that sounded really good (I don't have the name right now since
its at work but I'll post it later). They say it should run on any
Java system but that they only support Windows.
When they say it may only support Windows, they may be somewhat right.
There is a competing Microsoft JVM for one thing, and for another,
they may have simply not tested any other platform. Java can admittedly
be write once test everywhere for complex applications.
I've also had similar font problems with most web pages I go to
that have Java forms or reports. The labels and entry widgets and
such are all sized wrong so that they cut off part of the text.
Now we're getting into your web browsing software. Go ahead and let me
know what version (of Netscape?) you're running. But this again points
to a font misconfiguration. You may want to simply reinstall X11 and
run Xconfigurator again. Make sure you get both your 75dpi and 100dpi
font RPMs installed (unless you're sure you aren't running at 100dpi).
I'll look for more information from you.
