Yes we did it. It works fine.

Yes but do not believe in benchmarks ;-) Our applications are heavily
depending on network and database-transactions and so you can be sure
not to gain as much speed as you may expect from a benchmark. In our
domain we have a speed up from about 1.5.
Window-creation and opening is another problem where TurboJ does not
speed up much. That's because Motif seems to be very slowly here.
Maybe we should try a port to QT or something like that? Anybody
experiences here? How does SWING these Window-operations? My feeling
is that it is on all platforms very slow ...
