Probably you don't need JDK1.2 for playing with CORBA.
There are few CORBA2 compatible ORBs writen completely in java who
alredy implements all functionality what you can even want:
org.omg.CORBA.* package,
idl 2 java compiler,
interface repository server,
couple of good knowable services end ets.
