I consider that Java NutShell is one of the good books for learning Java.

Swing is coded by 100% pure Java.  So you can use swing with Linux
jdk.  You can download swing from
http://java.sun.com/products/index.html.  You can find many Java
products for Java.  For example, BDK and JSDK are alse coded by 100%
pure java.  So you can use these for your Linux.

Notice: You should download products for Solaris rather than Win32.
(I consider that there is a difference in installer.)
